Lobby Day 2008 - A Pilgrimage Worth Making

June 25, 2008
The 2nd annual Secular Coalition for America Lobby Day on June 9th was a tremendous success. We had a record 40 participants lobbying with us and were able to visit 30 House and Senate offices. Here we share photos and some of our citizen lobbyists' experiences -- in their own words -- so that they will inspire you to join us for Lobby Day in 2009.
Greg Epstein, Humanist Chaplain of Harvard University: Lobbying with the Secular Coalition for America is something every single member of the Humanist, atheist, and secular movement in the U.S. ought to try at least once. In our community we may not have prescribed prayers or mandatory holiday celebrations, but this is a pilgrimage worth making. When you walk into those Congressional and Senate office buildings, you should feel at home, because you own them. [Greg's complete statement]

From New Mexico: I am grateful for the efforts of the Secular Coalition for America to make these meetings possible. Without you, they would not have happened.
From Massachusetts: I didn't know much about the issues coming into this, but thanks to the presentation during the workshop, I was able to speak intelligently about them. It was a positive experience and I would love to participate in something similar in the future.

From Illinois: Thanks again for all your work. Lobby Day was a blast.
